The LRU-18/U is a one man, V-bottom inflatable life raft, which consists of two separate flotation chambers. Inflation of the upper second, third, and fourth cells are inflated by a CO2 inflation system. The remaining cells are inflated by an oral inflation system. All life raft seams are heat sealed to prevent leakage.

The LRU-18/U Life Raft Assembly is used by aircrew in the event of an emergency. The life raft may be stowed in a readily accessible area inside the fuselage or aircraft life raft compartment of applicable aircraft.
